Biography
Dr. Lori Vien is an Assistant Professor in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program at Wilmington University. She earned her PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision, with a specialization in Spiritual and Pastoral Integration, from Neumann University. She also holds an MS in Community Counseling from Wilmington University and a BA in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Asheville.
Dr. Vien is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPCMH) in Delaware, a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS). She has completed advanced training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), perinatal mood disorders, and nutrition/integrative medicine for mental health. She holds additional certifications as a PREPARE/ENRICH Pre-Marital Facilitator, Parents As Teachers (PAT) Educator, and Strengthening Families Program (SFP) Group Facilitator for levels: Birth-3, 3-5, 6-11 & 12-16.
In her academic role, Dr. Vien teaches graduate-level courses in clinical assessment, child and adolescent counseling, practicum/internship, and provides clinical supervision. She oversees the CMHC program’s clinical training sequence, supporting students’ progression through practicum and internship while ensuring compliance with professional practice standards.
Dr. Vien’s research interests include the developmental processes of counselors-in-training, counseling ethics and supervision, and the psychology of dehumanization. She is actively engaged in the broader counseling community, regularly attending conferences and presenting on topics that bridge counseling pedagogy with clinical outcomes.
Professionally, Dr. Vien maintains a private practice in Delaware, where she specializes in the treatment of anxiety and trauma related disorders using evidence-based cognitive and behavioral approaches, including ACT, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT). She brings over 20 years of experience working with adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families in both community-based and clinical settings.
Beyond her professional work, she treasures time with family, days spent sailing, and the simple pleasure of a good cup of coffee.
